The funny thing about living in Texas is that you live in the south, but you're not OF the South. Southern staples like shrimp & grits, fried green tomatoes...and cheese straws are more southEASTern specialties. In Texas, you'll find we all make a mean Frito Chili Pie, queso, and Texas Sheet Cake.

So, my mom (who was a great cook) always bought cheese straws...at STEINMART. I cannot walk into Steinmart without my stomach growling. We typically had them when company was visiting or on holidays.

Cheese straws are easy to make! Similar to a homemade cheese cracker, but a little lighter in texture. They're crunchy, cheesy, with just the right amount of spice.

They are incredibly addictive and are such a perfect addition to your happy hour. Easily made ahead, you can bag cheese straws for giving or store them in your cookie jar. Having friends over for drinks? Whip up a batch a few days ahead of time. You'll feel like a rock star once cocktail hour arrives.

I'm sharing the recipe and step-by-step instructions over on The Pioneer Woman Food & Friends today. Sorry, mom, I'm not buying them at Steinmart any more. ;) Go get the recipe!
