You probably know that I can't let Jack go into finals week without a care
package. Remember these
Notre Dame gingerbread cookies? This year, I decided to make him cookies inspired by our favorite radio
program, The Catholic Guy Show.
Now, I'm not sure what it says about us that my college-age son and I have the
same favorite radio show. Either Jack is very mature, or I am very
immature...I'm going to go with the latter.
The cookies are inspired by many of the show's catchphrases. When you're laughing as you're decorating cookies, that's a good thing. I could NOT WAIT for Jack to receive his care package; I think these went over really well and were a total surprise!
ADVENT = FUN LENT
If you're curious, the show is on SiriusXM, but you can listen to highlights
as a podcast. Warning: this is not your typical Catholic radio show.
Meaning...it's funny.
Hosted by Lino Rulli, it's an often hilarious look at what it's like to live out life as a
Catholic in real life, struggles and all.
There have been times when I've been listening while driving and almost needed
to pull over from laughing so hard. It's tough to drive while cry-laughing,
y'all! For the cookies, I used my favorite gingerbread cookie recipe (the one from my book Decorating Cookies) and my go-to royal icing. I just love the look of the simple white outline on the dark gingerbread.
Some of the cookie cutters used:
- Sweet Sugarbelle Cookie Sticks (these come in handy for so many things!)
- ECrandal Offset Stack of Books
- King Arthur Flour Polar Bear
- SemiSweet Mike Ribbon Banner
Lino, Mark, and Tyler...thanks for keeping me entertained while I bake
every day!
(I'm dreaming of a Bake at 350/Catholic Guy pilgrimage.)
Jack, Go Irish! Beat Finals!
