The Super Bowl is Sunday. Only because my husband grew up in San Francisco do I know that the 49ers are playing. Baseball? Yes. College football? Yes. The NFL? Not my jam.
I watch the Super Bowl for two reasons: the food that comes along with it and the commercials.
So, these are my Super Bowl thoughts...in cookie form.
Did we DVR the Kitten Bowl? (Oh, please tell me that you watch the Kitten Bowl on the Hallmark Channel. Sometimes, I put it on just for the kitties' viewing pleasure, and they LOVE it.)
What inning is this? (Again, when does baseball season start?)
A few tips for making these:
- here's the cut-out cookie recipe, I rolled these to 3/8"
- here's the royal icing recipe
- colors used: Americolor Chocolate Brown, Bright White, Leaf Green + Laurel, and Egg Yellow
- the "sayings" cookies were outlined using a #3 tip
- the roses were piped using a small star tip and finished with a small leaf tip
- the footballs were made using a #4 tip

I'm a little in love with those little footballs. I used a #4 tip, just squeezing with more pressure in the center to make a football shape. The laces were added with a #1 tip.
To add a little definition to the football cookies, I outlined the cookies with a dividing line down the center. I filled in the bottom section with flood icing, then let it dry for an hour or so. I added a little white flood icing to the brown flood icing, stirred gently, then flooded the top with that. The color isn't much different, but it adds some dimension.
I have to know...what are you making for the Super Bowl. I haven't decided. Nachos? Burgers? Chili? Queso? Jalapeno poppers? Pizza? 7-layer dip? Tacos????????? Ah, all the choices!!!
