We sent these cookies to Jack's friend who plays piccolo in the marching band. While I've made Notre Dame cookies before here, here, here, and even ND football cookies here...I've never attempted a marching band uniform/jacket OR a piccolo.
Did you know that the University of Notre Dame's band is the oldest college band in the United States? How cool is that?!?
For the cookies, I used my go-to recipe for the cut-out cookies and royal icing.
The colors used were:
- Blue: Chefmaster Navy with a bit of Americolor Midnight and Chefmaster Royal Blue
- Gold: Americolor Egg Yellow mixed with Americolor Gold
- Green: Americolor Leaf Green mixed with a bit of Americolor Forest Green
- White: Americolor Bright White
- For the piccolo: Chefmaster Super Black and a smidge of that in white to make the grey
To make the silver, I used silver luster dust mixed with Everclear and painted
it onto the dried icing. The alcohol evaporates, leaving just the silver. (I
used the same method with gold luster for the jacket buttons.)
It always makes me a little nervous to be too literal with cookie designs, but I ended up loving the marching band uniform jacket and piccolo.
Here's to someday watching that band march back onto the field! Go Irish!
